This windscreen washer pump is fitted to the base of the washer fluid reservoir bottle. It is a small electric motor that pressurises the system, pumping washer fluid from the bottle, through the lines, and onto your windscreen via the spray jets. A replacement is necessary when the original pump fails, which can manifest as a complete loss of spray, weak or inconsistent pressure, or a leak from the pump housing itself.
Continuing to drive with a non-functional washer pump is a significant safety hazard. Your ability to clear the windscreen of dirt, mud, insects, or road grime is eliminated, which can severely compromise visibility in critical driving situations and increase the risk of an accident. A working washer system is also a requirement for a vehicle to be deemed roadworthy.
