This Grease Seal is located on the rear axle between the spacer bearing and the grease catcher. Its job is to contain the differential oil within the axle housing, preventing it from leaking out onto your wheel bearings and brake assembly. Seals are a wearing part, and with age and exposure to heat, they can become hard and brittle, losing their ability to seal effectively. If you've noticed oil leaking onto the inside of your rear wheel or have contaminated brake shoes, a failed hub seal is the likely cause.
