This spring is located inside the gearbox bellhousing and is responsible for holding the clutch fork firmly against the pivot ball. If you're replacing your clutch, it's common for this small but critical spring to be worn, broken, or lost. A missing or failed spring will cause the clutch fork to rattle and have excessive free play. This leads to a poor pedal feel, inconsistent clutch engagement, and can cause premature wear to your new release bearing and clutch fork.
