This Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) sensor is fitted into your exhaust system, just before the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). Its job is to accurately measure the temperature of the exhaust gas, sending this information to the engine's computer to manage the DPF cleaning cycle, known as regeneration. Due to constant exposure to extreme heat cycles and contaminants, these sensors are a common failure point.
A faulty EGT sensor will send incorrect data, which can stop the DPF regeneration process from starting. If you don't replace it, you risk a completely blocked DPF, which will put your ute into limp mode, cause dash warning lights, and can lead to expensive, irreversible damage to the DPF assembly itself.
