The clutch slave cylinder is mounted to the side of your gearbox and is responsible for actuating the clutch fork. When this component fails, it typically leaks hydraulic fluid, leading to a loss of pressure in the clutch system. This is a common failure point as the internal seals wear out from use and exposure to heat.
If left unfixed, a failing slave cylinder will make it difficult to change gears. You'll notice a spongy pedal that goes to the floor with little resistance. Eventually, you will lose the ability to disengage the clutch entirely, leaving you unable to select a gear and stuck on the side of the road or track.
