This Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor is located in the air intake duct, between the air filter box and the engine's throttle body. It is a critical component of your vehicle's fuel management system, responsible for measuring the precise volume and density of air entering the engine. The Engine Control Unit (ECU) uses this information to calculate the exact amount of fuel to inject, ensuring optimal performance, fuel efficiency, and low emissions. A replacement is necessary when the original sensor becomes contaminated with dirt, oil, or moisture, or fails electronically, leading to incorrect readings.
If a faulty MAF sensor is not replaced, it can cause a range of significant engine problems. You may experience a noticeable loss of power, poor acceleration, rough idling, engine stalling, and a drastic decrease in fuel economy. Continuing to drive with a failed sensor can also illuminate the check engine light and potentially lead to long-term damage to your catalytic converter due to an imbalanced air-fuel mixture.
These Sensors can become contaminated with oil fumes in the intake system, it is important to clean them with Sensor Cleaner.
We recommend changing them every 60,000km or 2 years.
